The Ypres Castle Inn in the East Sussex town of Rye. This historic pub is situated on a flight of steps leading down from the Gun Gardens.

The Ypres Castle Inn is situated off of a flight of steps leading from thr Gun Garden (above) down to the Town Salts which may have been the part of the town entered in the Domesday Book. In recent times small boats could come up the channel from the sea and local legend says that some of these boats brought in contraband, especially "kegs of brandy and wine." The smuggled goods would be stored in a vault hidden below the pub's floor or in a number of other smaller hidey holes. The pub featured in the Series Mapp and Lucia. At the start of the series the pub doubled for teh Trader's Arms, where Lucia nd Georgie spent there first night in Tilling, or Rye as we know it.
