View of the walls of Lucca with people and tourists walking and the bell tower of the Saint Frediano Basilica in a sunny summer day, Tuscany, Italy

The Walls of Lucca are a symbol of the city recognized worldwide both for its artistic and monumental beauty and for its historical value. The construction of the Walls of Lucca dates back to the Renaissance period, from the first half of the 16th century to the middle of the 17th century, and has been preserved intact until today. With the loss of their defensive function, the wall was converted for civilian use in the first decades of the nineteenth century, when the fortification was transformed into the current shady city park.
