Drawing inspiration from his study of musical harmony, Kepler (1571-1630) developed in this book his concept of the inherent geometrical harmony of the universe. In it he presented his third law of planetary motion, which states that the cube of the planet's mean distance from the Sun is proportional to the square of the time that it takes to complete one orbit around the Sun.
