Yet this is supposed to be the proper method of introducing a new fruit. Such is not the case, nor has been, of the Eureka Raspberry. It has made its mark upon its merits alone. ISTot one dollar has been expended to laud its praises, l^o one has ever claimed for it one point more than it really possessed. It originated within one mile of my place, and have known it from the first, and have carefully watched it in every particular. The description I will give in as few words as possible, without the least exaggeration. The Eureka ripens a few days later than the Souhegan, and earlier than Ohio coming midway between the two. Fruit large and firm, almost equaling Gregg in size. Quality is of the best. Berry free from bloom, and very attractive in the measure, making it a splendid seller. The canes make a strong, upright growth, with a bright, healthy color resembling the Ohio, and quite as hardy. One peculiarity of Eureka is that it seldom throws more than four new canes each season to the hill, and never less than two, thus it is not necessary to thin the canes to the proper number, as nature performs this task. Its ability to bear fruit is truly wonderful. I believe it to be worthy of general planting, and hope that each of my customers may include at least a dozen plants in their order, and give it a trial.
