New Potato,—The Early THOROUGHBRED. A leading grower of Tioga County, New York, writes us, November 14, 1896, as follows: "I wish every Potato grower could give The THOROUGHBRED a trial. We would have fewer varieties and less poor stock grown. There are too many new kinds introduced; take, for instance, the Freeman, Carman No. 1, and Carman No. 3, all sent out at fancv prices as extraordinary in quality and yield. The THOROUGHBRED outyielded the No. 3 and doubled the yield of No. 1, and in quality discounts them both, besides being early. The Freeman is not worth mentioning,—too many small Potatoes.—and it is so with many others. I "hope The THOROUGHBRED will be as largely planted as it ; As shown in the illustration from photograph, the tuhers are oblong in shape, smooth, and handsome ; of a light blush or pinkish color. In quality for the table, either baked or boiled, it is u simply ; Tbe vine is a healthy, vigorous grower, sets its tubers compactly in the hill, and, from the fact that it does not set too many tubers, it is well adapted to growing in drills, and will mature an Immense Crop with very few small-sized Potatoes. The tubers all grow to a good marketable size, and yet are never coarse or prongy. In season of ripening it is early, being only a few days later than Burpee's Extra Early. It matures with the Early Rose. Below we quote from a letter received from our grower :— "The Early THOROUGHBRED is a great Potato. Beyond question it combines more good qualities than any one variety introduced since the days of the Early Rose.
