The barge “Ambush” moored at Burscough wharf on the Leeds and Liverpool canal in Burscough West Lancashire.


The H and R Ainscough’s barge “Ambush” and her dumb boat “Viktoria” at the Burscough Heritage weekend 2016. The boat displays at this years Heritage Weekend where organized by the H and R Ainscough’s Barge Restoration project which is a charity based in Burscough which is in the process of restoring two of the fleet of the barges that where used by H and R Ainscough to carry imported grain from docks on the river Mersey to the canal side mills in Burscough and Parbold. The two boats are moored outside the Old Stables where the project has it’s base which was open for people to inspect the boats learn about the history of the boats, and the corn mills that where such a big part of the village and the canal. The Leeds and Liverpool canal was completed in 1816 and provided a trade route across the Pennines. This waterway highway opened up the efficient transport of goods from and to the Liverpool docks and the industrial towns and cites of East Lancashire and West Yorkshire.
