The Angelus bell rings at 1, andwhen the prayer is said dinner begins. There is no talkingat meals, but instead there is reading, first a portion of Scrip-ture, then some history or biography, ending with the list ofthe martyrs and saints whose anniversaries occur on thefollowing day. After every meal all go into the chapel fora few moments of silent prayer. Recreation for an hourfollows, with prayer for a quarter, reading of the Imitation 168. LETTERS TO HIS MOTHER. of Christ for another quarter, then work indoors and out-doors, with some free time afterwards. Three times a weekone of us has to catechise the others as if they were children,in order to get facility in questioning and explaining. Twicea week we practise singing; and time is given for spiritualreading, lives of saints, etc. At six there is half an hoursmeditation in the chapel, followed by prayers. Supper is , with recreation for an hour. At 9 litanies are recitedin the chapel. After that we prepare points for the nextmornings meditation; at make an examination of con-science about all we have done, thought, said during theday; at a quarter to ten prepare for bed, and at ten lightsout.
