An iron war hat, Augsburg, middle of the 15th century. One piece forged bowl with a sharp central ridge and five-fold fluting. There is one lining hole at the top and two at each side. A surrounding bulge with notched decoration over slightly conical sides. Broad, inclined brim with a turned under edge, surrounded with lining rivets. There is a narrow decorative band with engraving along the base of the brim. The mark of the City of Augsburg is stamped once into the edge of the brim. Height cm. Rare helmet type for a man-at-arms, which is confirmed by nume,
