A 1957 advert for the British-made, Italian-looking Piatti motor scooter

A 1957 advert for the British-made, Italian-looking Piatti motor scooter. The Piatti scooter was originally produced in 1954 in Belgium by D'Ieteren. Its name came from its designer, Vincent Piatti. In 1956 production also commenced at the Cyclemaster works at Byfleet in Surrey, England. It was cheap to run – this advert claims it capable of 120 miles to the gallon. However, during this period the increasing availability of affordable small cars meant that only a small number of Piattis were manufactured. The advert appeared in a magazine in May 1957 – vintage 1950s graphics.
