Themachine is admirablyadapted to reducing large timbers to smaller dimensions, ripping wide lumber intostrips of varying widths, resawing from the side of a timberand other light work. The straining device, which controls the upper wheel and thepath of the saw blade on the face of the wheels, is very sensi-. AUTOMATIC BAND RIP-SAW tive. Nomatter what the vibrations are the strain takes up theslack in the blade instantly, thus adding wonderfully to theperfect working of the machine, and lengthening the life ofthe saw blades. The lower wheel is solid, lessening the circulation of dust andgiving itself increased momentum so that its speed governs theupper wheel and prevents it from overruning the lower. Themachine has three feeds, and powerfully-driven feed rolls inand above the table, and by a single movement of a lever con-venient to operator the machine can be instantly changed to ahand-fed rip-saw, or instantly stop the feed. AUTOMATIC TROLLEY CATCHER AND RETRIEVER The high value of trolley catchers and retrievers in eliminat-ing some of the causes of expensive accidents, injury to over-head equipment and the numerous annoying stops due to thepole leaving the wire, has long been recognized by practicalrailway men, the only problem being the selection of the bes
