TO THE CITY COUNCIL ) OF THE CITY OF LOWELL: \ Gentlemen,— In compliance witha municipal ordinance defining the duties of the City Phy-sician, I herewith submit a report condensed from the recordof the Superintendent of Burials, which exhibits the numberof deaths in each month of the past year, with the variouscauses assigned, also the sex, ages and vocation, as far asobtainable. The number of deaths which have been reportedand recorded from January 1st. to December 31st, 1863, is695; of these 322 were males, and 373 were females —showing an increase of 54 deaths over last year. Yet thenumber is considerably below the decennial average. The number in
