Franz Josef Glacier. South Island, New Zealand

Smaller glacier, creating a classic U-shaped glacial valley, flowing down into the larger Franz Josef glacier. In 1865, the glacier was named by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria by the German explorer. This and the nearby Fox Glacier and the surrounding landscape are within the Westland Tai Poutini National Park, located on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.
