Snellius. The emblem contains the family crest of Willebrord Snellius (1580-1626), professor of mathematics at the University of Leiden. His research was of great importance for the hydrographic mapping. For example, he explained the basis for a degree measurement method by means of the trigonometry (triangular measurement). Logo lined by Snellius (1952-1977) and Snellius (2003-).
