Hot water systems are generally most satisfactory when the top of the boiler is below the level of the returns, but the use of a pit also has its dis- advantages, and fairly good results can - be secured when the return ports of the boiler are slightly below the level of the returns, especially if the flow pipes are carried overhead or on the wall plates, as is suggested above. It would also be helpful if a mercury generator were attached to the system, or if some other method of placing the water under pressure were used. I would run the flow pipes downhill and, if pos- sible, would raise the expansion tank several feet above the point where it is attached to the flow pipes. The use of a generator would make it quite unnecessary to put in more pipe, but if the house is to be kept at 65 degrees in the coldest weather with- out a generator, it would be found more economical, both in firing and fuel, to put in one or two additional 2-inch returns. BRAMPTON, ONT. February business turned out far better than January, and the outlook seems to be slightly more encouraging generally.
