Coma-Virgo galaxy cluster. Optical image of the core of the Coma-Virgo cluster of galaxies, lying in the constellation Virgo. North is towards the top left corner. The bright elliptical galaxies at upper right are M86 (NGC 4406, left), and M84 (NGC 4374, right). At lower centre is the huge spherical galaxy M87 (NGC 4486). At top left is the galaxy NGC 4459. The four fainter galaxies at upper centre are (from left to right): NGC 4477, NGC 4473, NGC 4461, and the double galaxy NGC 4438 (lower) and NGC 4435. The Coma-Virgo cluster is one of the nearest large clusters of galaxies, lying between 20 and 70 million light years away.
