Sandro Botticelli (Alessandro Filipepi) Adoration of the Magi or Zanobi Altar, 1475, tempera on wood panel, Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy

Around 1475, the Florentine banker and financial intermediary Gaspare di Zanobi del Lama commissioned this painting from Sandro Botticelli. The panel depicts the biblical story of the Adoration of the Magi and includes prominent members of the Medici family, as well as the patron Gaspare. The man who stands on the far right in the foreground and wears a yellow and gold cloak has been accepted by most as a self-portrait of Botticelli himself.
