Mantua, home of Rigoletto, bronze statue of the tragic buffoon by Aldo Falchi.
The Casa di Rigoletto is a historic building in is located in Piazza Sordello 23, behind the cathedral, near the castle of San Giorgio. It has two fenced courtyards, in one of which, towards the square, there is a double loggia with round arches supported by marble columns on the ground floor. Upstairs is the loggia [1]. The housing body dates back to the Middle Ages (12th century), while the loggia and the portico are built in the 15th century. It got its name for being depicted in the original scenography of the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's opera starring the imaginary court jester Gonzaga. In 1978 a bronze statue of the Verdi figure was placed in the small garden, the work of the sculptor Aldo Falchi. Inhabited over the centuries by the canons of the cathedral, it is currently the seat of a tourist office in the province of Mantua.
