Anti-monarchy protestors with a placard reading "Don't you think this is all a bit silly?" demonstrate in Trafalgar Square in central London on 6 May, 2023, as the coronation of King Charles III took place a short distance away. Earlier, the head of the anti-monarchist campaign group Republic and a number of activists were arrested by police in Trafalgar Square, sparking concerns about freedom of speach and the right to protest. It was the first coronation of a new monarch in London, UK, for 70 years and despite steady rain, many thousands of people descended on the capital city to enjoy the celebrations.
