WASHINGTON The Market The week presents the same condi- tion as has obtained for some time with respect to the shortage of roses and carnations and the prices on these are necessarily what the commission men and wholesalers wish to ask, as the re- tailer has no alternative This does not apply to anything else, however, as there are plenty of lilacs, mignonette, sweet peas, violets, freesias, narcissi and lilies, so that no one need go with- out flowers. Aside from roses and car- nations the only flowers holding a price are gardenias and valley. Tulips are coming in larger quantities. Various Notes. Fred H. Kramer is cutting some fine tulips and daffodils and his bulbous stock as a whole is excellent. William F. Gude last week conferred with a number of interested parties with a view to preparing for the annual encampment of the G. A. K., which is to be held in this city. Mr. Gude has full charge of the arrangements, .A large number of visitors registered here last week, many of them coming to attend the third annual convention of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States. Among these visitors were John G. Heinl, of Terra Haute, Ind., whose son played a very promi- nent part in the proceedings of the convention; Samuel Bernstein and Da- vid Benjamin, of Kingston, N. Y.; W. H. Van Winkle, Jr., of Newark, N. J., and H. B. Ruppert, of Boston. The sympathy of the entire trade is being extended to M. J. McCabe, of Anacostia, D. C, who last
