Albert Park & Albert Park Lake are situated in the City of Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia, 3 km south of the Melbourne CBD. The park encompasses sq km 560 acres of parkland. Albert Park Lake 120 acres provides numerous ovals, sporting facilities, Albert Park Public Golf Course, a 5km walking track around the lake, and the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit. Today Albert Park is enjoyed by approx 5m visitors annually. Vestiges of Albert Park's Aboriginal history still remain, most notably the large ancient River Red Gum Tree, reputed to be the site of many corroborees. Albert Pk is characterised by the architecture of magnificent terrace homes & residences built in the first half of the 1900s. Grand boulevards such as Kerferd Rd tree-lined wide central strip and beachfront avenue of Beaconsfield Parade dotted with palm trees. Attractions include Kerferd Road Pier with its cafe, Plum Garland Memorial Playground overlooking the beach, and waterfront restuarants. Wide tree-lined streets, impressive Victorian architecture, an attractive village shopping centre with quality cafes, an award winning book shop and the most highly awarded ice-cream maker in Victoria, all help give Albert Park a bit of a chi-chi feel. The inner city suburb of Albert Park is located beachfront on Port Phillip between Port Melbourne and St Kilda, separated from the Melbourne city centre by South Melbourne and Southbank. The main commercial centre of Albert Park is situated along Bridport Street and features a collection of upmarket retailers and cafes. The shopping precinct then stretches south along Victoria Street all the way to the beach. Albert Park's coastline consists of a straight expanse of wide, sandy beach flanked on one side by the pleasantly landscaped foreshore and palm tree lined boulevard of Beaconsfield Parade, while the other side are the calm waters of Port Phillip, ideal for swimming or boating activities.
