The labia majora, or greater lips, made up of adipose tissue (fat) and covered externally with skin and hair and internally with mucous membrane. They begin in the median line at the lower border of the mons veneris and extend downward and 28 THE FEMALE ORGANS OF GENERATION. 29 backward, on either side, to meet at a point termed the four-chette, which is almost invariably torn at the first labor. The labia minora, or lesser lips, lie entirely within the vulva,except in the case of infants and of women who have borne chil-dren or are much emaciated.
