The grip-ping power depends on closer, more compact thetexture, the more uniform thegripping power. The looser thetexture the more uneven and un-certain its gripping power. Thephotograph above shows the dif-ference between the texture ofThermoid and ordinary wovenlining. Thermoid has a close, compacttexture. This gives Thermoid theideal gripping power. Because ofthis close texture it wears downslowly and evenly, and retainsthe same uniform gripping poweruntil worn to wafer thinness. Ordinary woven brake lining isloosely woven.
