The first man in the regiment to fall in battle was killed at the moment of taking this picture, shot through the head. His body may be seen about the tenth man from the left. The Company is in the act of firing a volley. The effect of Pratt's death may be seen from the fact that the smoke indicates that several men on each side of him failed to fire.
