Ballater, Royal Deeside, in April 2016, nearly 4 months after the devastating flood on Much progress has been made, but there is still much to do. Many businesses were flooded, and most are still awaiting finalization of flood damage repairs; flooring and understructures are still drying out. In addition, over 400 houses were flooded, and most residents are still unable to live in their homes until repairs can be finalized. Trees broken and washed up by the flooding can be seen on the near bank of the River Dee. On the opposite bank are trees that fell onto the bank more recently, when the frost holding the bank together melted, and trees immediately above the eroded bank collapsed.
