The Coates portal to the Sapperton Tunnel on the Thames Severn Canal, Coates, Gloucestershire
The Coates portal to the Sapperton Tunnel on the Thames Severn Canal linking the River Thames to the River Severn. When opened in 1789 the tunnel at miles was the longest canal tunnel ever built. The tunnel travels under the Cotswolds between the villages of Coates and Daneway. The Cotswold Canals Trust is hoping to restore the Stroudwater Navigation and Thames Severn Canal for the benefit of the public. A panoramic version of this image is available at B34BYH
