Runners battled several hours of rain and ran through the night during the annual mountain ultra marathon in Chamonix France. The race takes the runners through 3 alpine countries (France, Switzerland and Italy), over many high mountain passes for a total of 163km of running and 9600m of height gain total while circumnavigating the Mont Blanc massif. Runners battled several hours of rain and ran through the night during the annual mountain ultra marathon in Chamonix France. The race takes the runners through 3 alpine countries (France, Switzerland and Italy), over many high mountain passes for a total of 163km of running and 9600m of height gain total while circumnavigating the Mont Blanc massif. The race is conducted in semi-autonomy with only a few stops for food and water. The first few elite runners completed the course in under 22 hours, but most runners required 2 nights of running to complete the course sometime on Sunday 31 August 2014
