Cryogenically preserved bull semen in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. 12/17/1988. A young technician holding a straw of semen above liquid nitrogen. Aluminum dewars (sealed containers used to store semen at super cold temperature) line the wall behind the technician. This facility both stores bull semen Straws, small tubes used to hold semen samples, and sells straws from prize bull’s semen for use in breeding cows. Once the bull semen is collected and injected into straws it is stored in sealed dewars that are cooled by liquid nitrogen. Before insemination of a cow the Straw containing semen is warmed.
