Number of Species.—Thirty of the samples collected depositeda sediment on standing, and from this sediment bacillus coli couldbe easily cultivated. Observations on the number and characterof species were made by study of the plate cultures and by sub-cultures in the standard media. The better class of milk containsthe normal flora of acid fermentation, showing three or four specieswhich could be easily differentiated. Those milks which the chem-ical examination showed to be diluted contained a more variedflora, six to ten species being readily determined.
