Hawaii and Olympus Mons, artwork. Olympus Mons is Mars's tallest peak. Its volcanic crater is 70 kilometres wide, rising 24 kilometres from its base. The volcanic islands of Hawaii include the Mauna Kea volcano (lower right) that rises 10 kilometres from the seabed of the Pacific Ocean. Mount Everest (not shown), Earth's highest mountain, rises to an elevation of around 9 kilometres above sea level.
