Of these the ones of the upper row re-tain their original form, but from those of the lower line themullions have been ruthlessly sawed, and square, shutteredopenings fitted in. The Palazzo Communale close by soarsto a great height and terminates in square battlements,while its windows have been left unspoiled. Quite markedupon its fa9ade are the small bracketed apertures, to be 8 BYWAYS IN SOUTHERN TUSCANY.
