George Savile, 1st Marquess of Halifax and 4th Bart., son and heir of Sir William Savile, 3rd Bart., by Anne, daughter ofThomas, 1st Lord Coventry (the Lord Keeper). He wasborn 11 Nov. 1633; succeeded his father 24 January, 1643-4; for Pontefract 1660; was created, 13 January, 1668,Baron Savile of Eland and Viscount Halifax, both co. York;on 16 July, 1677, Earl of Halifax; and 17 August, 1682,Marquess of Halifax. He married (1) Lady DorothySpencer (see No. 26), who died 16 December, 1670, and Plate No. 88.— Robert Bankes, Lord Hawkesbury, afterwards2nd Karl of Liverpool (page 53).
