Clochmaben Stone, Gretna Green: remains of a Neolithic stone circle which became an Iron Age tribal meeting-place & cult centre of the Celtic deity Mabon; divine youth equivalent to the Roman Maponus or Apollo. The Clochmabanestane is possibly the Locus Maponi mentioned in the C7th Ravenna Cosmography. An ancient trysting-place whose role was taken over by the Smithy at Gretna Green.
