Infrared image of the BNKL star formation region in the Orion Nebula, showing the Becklin- Neugebauer object (bright spot at top) in the Kleinmann-Low
Infrared image of the BNKL star formation region in the Orion Nebula, showing the Becklin- Neugebauer object (bright spot at top) in the Kleinmann-Low nebula. The image was recorded at a wavelength of microns by a special infrared camera developed by Dr John F. Arens & colleagues at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, USA. The picture is colour-coded for intensity of infrared emission, from white for the most intense emission through to blue for the least intense. The newborn star at the heart of the Becklin- Neugebauer object is believed to be only a few thousand years old.
