There are,however, a few maladies which sometimes resemble closely are: Acute myelitis, anterior poliomyelitis, tabes. When the paralysis due to myelitis is spastic, the disease cannot beconfounded with polyneuritis, as the state of the tonicity of the muscles,the reflexes, the gait and the condition of the sphincters are radicallydifferent in the two affections. The flaccid form of myelitis presents some difficulty of differentia-tion. Here the anaesthesia is much pronounced and affects almost sym-metrically the entire lower extremities (in polyneuritis the object
