Artist/engraver/cartographer: Jean Alexandre Buchon. Provenance: Atlas géographique, statistique, historique et chronologique des Deux Amériques et des iles adjacentes; par Buchon, dédié à Le Duc d'Orléans, à Paris, à la librairie de J. Carez, éditeur, Rue Haute feuille, no 18; Chez Verdiere, Quai des Augustins, no 25; Chez Bossange, père, Rue de Richelieu, No. 60. MDCCCXXV. Type: Very decorative early 19th century antique hand-coloured engraved map. Text in French. The Federal Republic of Central America (República Federal de Centroamérica), also initially referred to as the 'United Provinces of Central America', was a short-lived sovereign state consisting of the territories of the former Captaincy General of Guatemala of New Spain. It existed between 1821 and 1841. It is sometimes referred to in English as the 'United States of Central America'. It consisted of the present-day nations of Guatemala itself, plus El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica. Curiously, it also includes Los Altos (parts of present-day Guatemala and Chiapas state in southern Mexico), although this did not formally accede until the 1830's. The British colony of Belize, and the Mosquito Coast are shown as seperate territories.
