James Bindley (1737-1818), British antiquarian. Bindley built up a large collection of rare books, engravings and medals. He was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (1765). In 1765 he also became one of His Majesty's Commissioners of Stamps, holding the role for over 50 years until hi death, becoming senior commissioner from 1781. He published 'A Collection of the Statutes now in force relating to the Stamp Duties' (1775). Artwork from 'Illustrations of the Literary History of the Eighteenth Century', an 8-volume work published between 1817 and 1858 by English printer and antiquarian John Nichols and his son John Bowyer Nichols.
