A flintlock pistol, Pistor, Bettenhausen (near Kassel), circa 1740. Two-stage Damascus barrel, the breech section octagonal then round after a baluster between, with smooth bore in 14 mm calibre. Silver front and rear sights. Lightly engraved flintlock bearing the signature, "PISTOR A BETTENHAUSEN" on the cambered lock plate. Carved walnut stock with horn nose cap and cut iron furniture. The trigger guard is inscribed "". Original ramrod with horn tip and iron shoe. Length 46 cm. Presumably Matthias Conrad Pistor 1691 - 1761. Worked in Bettenhausen 1732 - 17,
