Libbie Henrietta Hyman (1888-1969), US zoologist. Hyman graduated from the University of Chicago in 1910, obtaining her doctorate from Chicago in 1915. Her Jewish background meant other universities would not hire her, and she stayed at the University of Chicago as a research assistant until 1931. She carried out pioneering work on invertebrates, and published six major books and over 100 articles. In 1937 she was appointed as a research associate at the American Museum of Natural History. This photographed was distributed in 1941, by which time her five-volume work on invertebrate zoology was considered the classic reference on the topic.
