Alexanderplatz, Berlin-Mitte, Germany 10 January,2021. New Rotes Rathaus underground U-Bahn railway station interior - extension of U5 line in front of Town hall opened 4 December 2020. U5 line now runs from Hönow to the Hauptbahnhof. The station was designed by Architect Oliver Collignon and was built under Rathausstraße directly in front of the Berlin city hall. The station has two levels. The upper level serves the U5 line and the lower level is a train storage area with 4 tracks that may be used at a later date if either the U3 or U10 projects to Potsdamer Platz projects are realized. The

The station construction was delayed by the discovery of the remains of the medieval Altes Rathaus in front of the Rotes Rathaus during excavations. The exit was relocated to preserve the relics.
