Maize crop genetics research. Molecular geneticist and technician using fluorescent plate readers and gel electrophoresis to identify plants with genetic markers associated with traits of interest. This will allow the most efficient selection of maize (corn) plants (Zea mays) with beneficial traits. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the US Department of Agriculture.
