Holy Lake Namtso is one of the most important sacred lakes in Tibet. Thousands of pilgrims perform the kora (clockwise prayerful circumnabulation) to obtain merit , most auspiciously in the fifth and sixth month of the Tibetan Year of the Sheep. The five colours of the prayer flags represent the five elements and they are placed near these elements to better carry prayers to heaven. The lake, one of the world's highest, is 4718 meters above sea level and is the second biggest salt water lake in China.
