The Palace of Westminster or Houses of Parliament of the United Kingdom on the north bank of the River Thames in the City of Westminster, in central London, England. Its name is derived from the neighbouring Westminster Abbey and refers to the Old Palace, however the medieval building complex was destroyed by fire in 1834.
