Panusaya Rung Sithijirawattanakul (R) and Parit Chiwarak "Penguin" (L) of the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration wave to their supporters during a rally at Sanam protesters converged on the historic royal heart of Bangkok today to demand the resignation of the military-backed government and reforms of the monarchy, long considered a taboo subject in Thailand. The demonstrators gathered first at the Thammasat university campus on a college football field that was the scene of a massacre of left-wing students by pro-regime paramilitaries in 1976.
