The diagram illustrates the results better than is pos-sible by tabulation or description. It will he noted that thestoker fired locomotive was worked with full throttle duringpractically the entire trip and with shorter cut off than thehand tired locomotive. The running time for the 1.! milesbeing .>1 minutes in favor of the stoker IIAXI) AND STOKER FIRED TESTS OX 13-MILE GRADE. The effect on traffic density is illustrated by the factthat on the day the hand fired trip was run, its slow timeon the grade held back two other trains, which the higherspeed attained by the 3209 would have prevented. That the above is not an isolated case, 1 will refer to asimilar test made some time ago on the Pennsylvania tests were made with two locomotives, one of the type 23 shown with stoker and an exactly similar locomotive with-out stoker.
