Colon Shop, Historic Richmondtown, Staten Island, New York

The building was originally built in the Woodrow section of Staten Island between 1840 and 1850. It was owned by Mary Ann Winant (1808–96), a widow who married carpenter and chairmaker James Colon Jr. (1807–98) in 1859. They ran a shop here throughout their lives together. From 1897 until 1912, William and Catherine Goetschius operated a grocery store here. In 1913, the small shop was moved to a farm in Pleasant Plains off the Bloomingdale Road and used as an outbuilding. It was finally moved to its present location in 1969. It has been restored as a tinsmith's shop. It is an official New Yorki City landmark.
