MODEL RELEASED. Clinical trial of omega-3 supplementation. Children performing computerised cognitive tests as part of a trial. The trial will investigate whether taking a dietary supplement of omega-3 fatty acids can have certain health benefits. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for normal brain function and are derived solely from the diet, but occur at lower than optimum levels in modern diets in developed countries. Taken twice daily for 8 weeks the aim is to see whether the supplement improves the mental functioning and fatigue levels of children aged 10 to 12. This can be measured through tests designed to assess memory, attention and reaction times. Photographed at the School of Psychology, Northumbria University, UK.
