In 1904 he was calledto the University of Michigan as Assistant Professorin Mechanical Engineering. He was married on. WILLIAM SYLVESIER HAZELTON September 16, 1903, to Julia V. Johnson ( 1902),of Duluth, Minnesota, and they have a daughter,Elizabeth Baldwin. CLARENCE LINTON MEADER was born at Battle Creek, Michigan, August 12, 1868,son of John Murray and Maria A. (Fredericks)Meader. He is of German, English, and Welshancestry. He came up through the public schoolsof his native place and entered the University ofMichigan, where he received the degree of Bachelorof Arts in 1891. He pursued graduate studies atAnn Arbor, Athens, and Bonn for the next two years,and in 1893 returned to the University of Michiganas instructor in latin. The year 1897-1S98 hespent at Rome, Italy, and in Greece as Fellow inChristian Archreology at the American School ofClassical Studies ; and the following year he spent atthe University of Munich.
