Professor Branca compares one of theimmense new fossils with the mounted skele-ton of the diplodocus which Carnegie pre-sented to the Imperial Museum, and verymuch to the disadvantage of the latter. Thediplodocus has heretofore been known asabout the largest of all land animals so fardiscovered, but the new giant appears to beat least one-third larger, and possibly twiceas large, to judge by the bone measurementscited by Professor Branca. The new skele-ton, along with others, is now in the processof unpacking and reconstruction in Berlin, which will doubtless require many months. The longest rib of the diplodocus has alength of 73 inches, while one of the ribs (not known to be the longest) from the Africanreptile measures about 98 inches. The long- r—7ft. — 6 —5 —Z.
