The Three Shire Stones, beside the route of the Fosse Way Roman road, which is now a minor tarmac road heading north-east from Bath.
A tripoint is a location where three counties (or countries) meet at the same spot. A few are marked in some way, such as the Three Shire Stones which stand at the point where the English counties of Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire meet. It resembles a dolmen, an ancient burial chamber, but its origins are uncertain, and it is believed to be a reconstruction, using stones taken from another site, possibly in 1859.
