The peristyle was designed by M Poyet under the direction of Napoleon. Thus the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly was given a magnificient façade. The 12 Corinthian columns are surmounted by a triangular pediment with sculptures of Law seated on the tables of the Charter supported by Strength and Justice. On one side is Peace conducting Commerce and on the other Abundance and the Sciences. The rivers of Rhone, Seine and Marne are also shown. There are statues at the entrance of Minerva and Themis and at the foot the figures of Sully, l’Hôpital d’Aguesseau and Colbert seated on pedestals. The Pont Louis XVI was designed by Perronnet and completed in 1791. Its name has been changed to Revolution, Legislative Body, Concord and back to Louis XVI.
